Dr. Frida Njogu-Ndongwe to support equity and inclusion national agenda in Uganda.

10 March 2022

IDinsight’s East and South Africa Regional Director, Dr. Frida Njogu-Ndongwe, will serve as a member of an expert committee convened by the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) to address issues of inclusion and equity within the context of Uganda’s national development agenda.

Dr. Frida Njogu-Ndongwe: IDinsight East Africa Regional Director

Earlier this year, IDinsight’s East and South Africa Regional Director, Dr. Frida Njogu-Ndongwe, accepted an invitation to serve on the Committee on Inclusion and Equity for National Development.  The committee, which the Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) appointed to interrogate what it takes to have inclusive and equitable development in Uganda.  The study, which commenced on January 27, 2022, builds on previous studies on country ownership, urbanization, child protection, immunization, domestic financing, and trust.

It has become increasingly challenging to ensure that the national development process remains equitable for all with shifting demographics.  With the hopes of addressing the future of various marginalized populations, including older people, this new consensus study focuses on issues that accompany these shifting demographics and those that will manifest in the future as a result of them.

I am really pleased to be contributing to this study, and through it, to a more equitable and inclusive development agenda in Uganda by supporting the use of evidence in policymaking.

Dr. Frida Njogu-Ndongwe, East and South Africa Regional Director

Along with experts in seemingly disparate fields—philosophy, refugee law, migration, gerontology, public health, economics, history, creative arts, development studies, business management—Frida brings a wealth of experience and regional knowledge that will augment this study.  UNAS thanks IDinsight and Frida for wholeheartedly participating in this timely work.

Prof. Peter Mugyenyi, President, Uganda National Academy of Sciences

We look forward to supporting UNAS in this undertaking.  Collective ownership of a national development agenda that promotes equitable development resonates with IDinsight’s mission.
