Driving change through data: IDinsight at gLOCAL Evaluation Week 2025

19 June 2025

gLOCAL Evaluation Week is a global knowledge-sharing movement convened and supported by the Global Evaluation Initiative. Each year, it brings together the evaluation community to exchange knowledge, innovations, and best practices in monitoring and evaluation. From June 2-6, 2025, the gLOCAL platform hosted thousands of events in multiple languages across six continents.

At IDinsight, we were proud to have co-hosted several sessions with our partners, spotlighting projects and innovative approaches from the West and North Africa region. Couldn’t attend? Whether you missed the events or want to revisit the discussions, you can find the full recordings below, featuring our work in agriculture, education, and community-led development.

Making digital tools work for farmers: Bridging gender gaps and enhancing livelihoods

Participants: Gallahika Charles (Associate, IDinsight) and Victoire Lépine (West and North Africa, Chief of Staff, IDinsight)

This session explored how digital tools are transforming agricultural livelihoods, with a particular focus on closing gender gaps. We presented findings from a 2024 scoping study conducted with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), as well as a collaborative project with CARE Mali assessing the perceived impact of a digital platform on market access and resilience for women and youth . The discussion highlighted real-world examples of digital platforms empowering women farmers.

Monitoring for transformation: Learn about Fondation Marocaine du Préscolaire’s (FMPS) groundbreaking innovations in preschool education in Morocco

Participants: Lorraine d’Anglejan (Interim Regional Director, West and North Africa, IDinsight), Houda Biyout (Head of M&E Department, FMPS), Kaoutar El Khattabi (M&E Manager, FMPS), Catalina Salas (Senior Manager, IDinsight)

This session was co-led by IDinsight and FMPS, our long-term partner since 2019. Together, we presented the co-developed M&E platform, designed to collect reliable data and support real-time decision-making for educators and supervisors. The session also explored how FMPS has integrated learning data and evaluation into its decision processes through two rigorous studies, Évaluation de competences (EdC) and Évaluation de Fin de Cycle EdFC, which were conducted in partnership with IDinsight. We shared key findings, practical insights, and the concrete ways the M&E platform is helping improve learning outcomes and guide FMPS’s ongoing innovation, such as upcoming A/B testing pilots and new decision-support tools.

Gender, learning, and impact: Exploring Sanady Foundation’s innovative “Teaching at the Right Level” approach to education

Participants: Catalina Salas (Senior Manager, IDinsight) and Claire Ricard (Economist, IDinsight)

This session focused on how we embedded a gender lens into the impact evaluation of the ‘Teaching at the Right Level’ (TaRL) methodology, implemented by Fondation Sanady under the guidance of the National Human Development Initiative (INDH) and the World Bank, with Pratham as an advisory partner. We began by providing the broader context of the study and how the TaRL approach was adapted to the Moroccan education system. The session highlighted the importance of examining gender dynamics in the classroom and introduced our main research question on teachers’ implicit gender biases on gender and science stereotypes, as well as gender and behavior stereotypes. We shared the innovative methodology used, particularly the development and application of Implicit Association Tests (IATs), and walked through the findings on both learning outcomes and gender perceptions. We concluded by discussing the implications of these insights for public policy, especially regarding the integration of gender-sensitive approaches into educational programs.

Supporting values-based holistic community-led development: an evidence and learning initiative of the Full Spectrum Coalition (FSC)

Participants: Lorraine d’Anglejan (Interim Regional Director, West and North Africa, IDinsight), Tita Alvira (Senior Liaison Officer, Legado), Christina Bowles (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor, One Village Partners), Ben Cislaghi (FSC Study Coordinator and Mixed-Method Researcher), Gannon Gillespie (Senior Advisor, Full Spectrum Coalition), Francesca Moneti (Senior Advisor, Strategy and Programs, Tostan)

This session introduced the Full Spectrum Coalition’s ambitious five-year learning initiative examining Holistic Community-led Development (HCLD) across three organizations and diverse global contexts. The discussion explored the research agenda, methodology, and potential implications for transforming development practice.

“It is our hope that the outputs of this study will not only demonstrate the effectiveness of the HCLD model, but will equip practitioners around the world with tools to strengthen their program design and evaluation.”

– Charles Bowles (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Advisor, One Village Partners)
