Enter the command ‘tab total_ely3, mi’. Note that you need to include the ‘missing’ option in this command in order to include missing values in the overall count.

Enter the command ‘tab total_ely3 child_female, mi column’. Stata will tabulate the total_ely3 variable separately for child_female == 0 and child_female == 1. The ‘column’ option tells Stata to report the % of observations with each value of total_ely3 separately for each gender, so that the %’s total up to 100% for males and 100% for females. With this output you can view the % of male students who scored 10. If you had included the option ‘row’ instead of ‘column’, then Stata would have reported the % of observations with each value of total_ely3 that are male or female, summing to 100% for each value of total_ely3.

Question 3

Enter the command ‘tab math_bl math_ely3, row’. The first row in the table reports the distribution of endline scores for all students who scored ‘Beginner’ at baseline. You will see that only 58 or 5.66% of students failed to progress beyond the Beginner level by the year 3 endline. 100-5.66 = 94.3%.

Question 4

Enter the command ‘tab total_ely3 child_female, mi’. The last row in the table reports the number of children who do not have a Year 3 test score. There are 1,671 males and 1,595 females with missing Year 3 scores.
