T. Arthur Chibwana (Malawi)

Leads client engagement; manages projects that help government and other NGOs use data and evidence to drive decisions and social impact.

T. Arthur Chibwana is an Associate Director, Malawi Office and Strategic Partnerships Lead at IDinsight, based in Malawi.

Arthur leads the Malawi Learning Partnership and helps the government of Malawi to use data-driven approaches to make decisions in social protection to outsize social impact and end ultra-poverty. He also manages evaluation for projects that prevent violence against children in Uganda.

Prior to IDinsight, Arthur led the development and delivery of high impact initiatives to root out poverty and inequality in Southern Africa and provided oversight for social and economic justice at Christian Aid covering Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. He previously led Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning at Christian Aid in Malawi focusing on research, learning and program reflections. Arthur held different M&E, research and modelling roles in CGIAR centres including International Potato Center (CIP), International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), International Wheat and Maize Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). He also supported CGIAR-wide Research Programs (CRP’s) in strategic foresight modelling efforts. Arthur worked in the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP), where he conducted multi-dimensional impact assessments, integrated assessment modelling, evaluated future climate change impacts and assessed plausible technology combinations for reducing poverty and food insecurity at regional and global levels.

He holds a Master of Science in Agricultural and Applied Economics from University of Malawi/University of Pretoria and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from University of Malawi.
