Leads projects in nutrition and sanitation, with a passion for figuring out how to make sure data doesn't collect dust on shelves.

Pulkit is a Manager at IDinsight, based in New Delhi.

At IDinsight Pulkit works with the Indian government's planning agency NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, and the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. In particular he leads two learning partnerships with these agencies on health/nutrition and sanitation.

As part of the health/nutrition partnership, he leads a team to better assess and improve the National Nutrition Mission's (India's flagship nutrition policy) Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) strategy. To this end, his team has run a large-scale survey across 8 Indian states to identify the right communication platforms and the right nutrition-related messages to prioritize. The team is running a second round survey to strengthen the overall understanding of SBCC for the National Nutrition Mission.

As part of the sanitation partnership, he leads a team to evaluate the effect of providing low-touch scalable nudges to households to increase latrine usage. Through the Swaccha Bharat Mission (government's flagship sanitation program), huge gains in toilet construction and useage have been made across India. However, sustained, exclusive toilet use continues to be an ongoing challenge. This evaluation should contribute to a larger body of evidence for what works and what does not for improving exclusive toilet use.

Prior to IDinsight, Pulkit worked with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) in Malawi to develop strategies to reduce pediatric HIV and TB. He is particularly proud of his contribution to the creation of the first set of national standard operating procedures for TB contact investigation. Pulkit started his career as a management consultant at Accenture in San Francisco.

Pulkit holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Health and a Minor in Global Poverty from the University of California, Berkeley.
