Companies, governments, and non-profits are hungry to convert money into avoided greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. But though there is plenty of research on what interventions could stem global warming and plenty of initiatives claiming to reduce emissions, there is no clear guide for donors who want to verifiably reduce GHGs.
What is the most cost-effective way to convert money into reduced GHG emissions?
IDinsight’s Giving Green initiative seeks to answer this question.
We identify giving opportunities that are backed with the best available research and evidence, allowing donors to actually move the needle on climate change.
We are a team of economists, public policy professionals, and effective altruists steeped in the culture of data and evidence. We believe that donors should direct their funds toward options that give the most impact per dollar, with claims backed by rigorous research.
We have two types of donation recommendations: short-term recommendations, which seek to cause immediate, verifiable decreases in GHG emissions (or increase carbon capture); and long-term recommendations, which seek to make bigger, riskier bets with the hope of changing the long-term arc of climate change.
Giving Green is a new initiative and a work in progress. We are actively looking for support to continue this work in order to provide more and better-researched donation options.
