The same machine learning approaches that power today’s ride-sharing apps and tomorrow’s self-driving cars hold great promise in helping solve critical social sector problems. In our first machine learning project we helped an education NGO increase their social impact by 60% without increasing their operational cost. We are now helping that organization enroll over 500,000 additional out-of-school children in India. Building off this success, we are developing a machine learning practice that allows us to deliver this type of impact to more clients in a variety of sectors. While there are many machine learning experts in academia and the private sector, we are proud to spearhead these efforts in the social sector. We are one of the few, if only, organizations in this space that combine expertise in all the dimensions needed to actually put machine learning applications into the hands of policymakers and change programs at scale.
