John leads complex projects with multiple work streams and teams, manages client relationships, and oversees project budgets. His sectoral focus includes Public Financial Management and social sector financing, particularly in health, education, climate change, and gender equity. His current projects include utilizing IDinsight’s Learning Partnership Model to address public financial management challenges in Kenyan government projects, aiming to strengthen PFM systems for improved service delivery. Prior to joining IDinsight, John worked at the Institute of Public Finance as a Senior Regional Health Financing Analyst based in Ethiopia. In this position, he successfully provided technical assistance to federal, regional, and Woreda governments in costing investments for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and managing expenditures for NTDs and COVID-19 vaccine delivery funds. He also supported the implementation of Public Finance Management Reforms, particularly the transition from item-based budgeting to program-based budgeting and from IBEX to the Integrated Financial Management Information System. John is a recognized expert commentator on economic performance and public finance management, regularly contributing to media outlets and appearing on national television. John has completed coursework for his Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management at Kenyatta University and is currently working on his thesis in preparation for graduation. His research focuses on leveraging public financial management reforms to finance comprehensive primary health care in Kenya. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy and Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from Kenyatta University. Additionally, John has completed a second Master’s degree in Health Economics and Policy from the University of Nairobi and is awaiting graduation.
