Krishanu Chakraborty (India)

Associate Director, DataDelta

Leads the global R&D function of DataDelta division at IDinsight, and is passionate about data for development, public service delivery, and education

As an Associate Director at IDinsight, Krishanu Chakraborty serves as the Global Lead for Research & Development for DataDelta. This role focuses on methodological & analytical innovations, standardizing quality control, and mainstreaming new service lines/innovations for core service offerings.

Previously, Krishanu led the Data on Demand team (now called DataDelta) in India at IDinsight. The team developed new approaches to impact-oriented primary data collection with the goal of making data collection radically faster and cheaper. In the past year, the team has scaled their system to eight Indian states and now regularly report to the Indian central government on how well services are being delivered to 60 million people. Prior to that, Krishanu led the NITI Financial Inclusion Learning Partnership team at IDinsight and contributed to other initiatives related to data science for development, public service delivery, and education.

Krishanu brings over 10 years of experience in leading large-scale research programs, program management, performance standardization, policy and strategy formulation in private organizations, government, bilateral and multilateral agency-funded project. Prior to joining IDinsight, Krishanu was the Project Manager (Research) at J-PAL South Asia managing the education research portfolio of Prof. Karthik Muralidharan in India. Krishanu has also worked across consulting giants (PricewaterhouseCoopers India) in their government advisory arm as a social sector consultant, a Social Entrepreneurship venture (AISECT), and as a software engineer with Cognizant.

While in J-PAL, Krishanu was a Teaching Assistant for the MIT – J-PAL MicroMasters course in Data, Economics and Development Policy (Rounds:1,2,3). Krishanu was also a Lecturer for Data Visualization at the J-PAL Global Staff Meet (2017) & J-PAL Global Staff Training (2017).

Krishanu is currently a PhD student at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Krishanu holds a PGDM from Xaviers’ Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar and a Bachelor’s in Technology from West Bengal University of Technology. Krishanu speaks Bengali, Hindi, and English.
