Rico Bergemann (South Africa)

Rico Bergemann is an Associate Director at IDinsight, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He also serves as a Director of the Board for IDinsight South Africa NPC. He leads IDinsight global projects as well as projects in Eastern and Southern Africa across sectors implementing impact evaluations and supporting partners to design and roll out decision-focused monitoring and evaluation systems.

Since 2022, Rico leads IDinsight’s 3-year Learning Partnership with CARE’s Impact@Scale unit – a dedicated team that identifies, designs, and grows evidence-backed solutions with viable pathways to sustained and large-scale impact. He also oversees IDinsight’s Digital Economy Research Impact Initiative (DERII). Previously, he has managed various MELA advisory projects and two randomized evaluations, including a school leadership development program in South Africa and an unconditional cash transfer program for refugees in Uganda.

Prior to joining IDinsight, Rico gained experience in the public sector at the German Embassies in Zambia and South Africa. He worked for GIZ as an M&E Assistant in its HIV program in Zambia and was a board member for a German NGO.

Rico holds a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Heidelberg University (Germany) and an M.Sc. in International Development and Management from Lund University (Sweden).
