Riv is the Southeast Asia Regional Director for IDinsight, based in Manila, Philippines. As Regional Director, Riv leads IDinsight’s strategy and thought leadership in Southeast Asia. He oversees the Southeast Asia team’s large portfolio of partnerships with government agencies, multilateral agencies, and philanthropies working to increase social impact through data and evidence-backed solutions. Riv also leads the Southeast Asia team’s effort to build stronger partnerships at the local and decentralized levels. IDinsight works to improve lives through provision of services in various sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and employment. Prior to IDinsight, Riv brings over twenty years of experience working in Asia and West Africa. In Indonesia, he worked with the World Bank on one of the largest teacher reforms in the world, and with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as its principal designer for investments in Indonesia’s tertiary education sector. He was one of the principal data analysts for Myanmar’s Household Living Conditions Survey and served as the Senior Advisor for Performance and Strategy at Pulse Lab Jakarta, the United Nations’ big data suit for Asia Pacific. He also served as the Regional Advisor for Country Capacity Strengthening in West Africa at the World Food Programme, where he worked to strengthen national systems and build state capabilities towards improved food security in the region. Born and raised in Indonesia, Riv was academically trained as an engineering physicist at Institut Teknologi Bandung and later as a development economist at Harvard Kennedy School’s MPA/ID program.
