The Problem

As part of the GiveWell Learning Partnership, IDinsight partnered with Charity Science: Health (CSH), an Indian-registered NGO that aims to improve vaccination rates in India by sending SMS reminders to caregivers. CSH’s goal is to implement an effective program and demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of this intervention to become a GiveWell Top Charity, which could lead to increased donations enabling CSH to scale its operations.

IDinsight’s long-term goal was to inform GiveWell’s top charity decision on CSH by generating evidence on program impact through a randomized controlled trial. However, CSH is still revising and refining its program, and was unlikely to be ready to implement an RCT under this engagemen. GiveWell and IDinsight therefore decided to disengage CSH and re-evaluate GiveWell’s evidence needs concerning CSH at a later stage.

Evidence Needs

IDinsight Service

IDinsight primarily provided advisory services to CSH. For example, supporting CSH in developing their program theory of change, establishing a monitoring system to inform program decisions, and analyzing participants’ enrollment data to produce recommendations for highly quality data.

Impact

IDinsight has been a thought partner to CSH, providing input and continuously shaping program design and implementation as they refine their model.
