IDinsight collaborates with EDCOM2 to inform 2024 budget allocations for nutrition

Manila, November 28 2023 – IDinsight announces a new strategic collaboration with the Philippine Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) – a government commission tasked to undertake a comprehensive national assessment and evaluation of the Philippine education sector. IDinsight has been asked by EDCOM 2 to provide evidence-based recommendations on how national government resources for nutrition can be most cost-effectively spent.

EDCOM 2 is currently engaged in national consultations for the 2024 budget allocations for national nutrition programs targeting children aged 0 to 6th grade. These programs span four key government agencies and cover interventions that range from promoting breastfeeding to micronutrient supplementation to school feeding. 

Following these consultations and the support provided by IDinsight, EDCOM 2 will provide recommendations for 2024 resource allocations to Congress through its Co-Chairpersons and Commissioners in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Concurrently, EDCOM 2 is crafting legislation aimed at offering comprehensive guidance regarding budget allocations and initiatives focused on early childhood nutrition.

This partnership between IDinsight and EDCOM2 will not only inform the 2024 budget but also lay the groundwork for an evidence-based approach to future nutrition budgets.

IDinsight’s involvement is made possible through the IDinsight Catalytic Fund. This will enable the project team to provide timely and rigorous support to EDCOM2 within the tight timeline for this year’s budgeting process.
